Rio Tinto is proud to announce our membership in the Global Battery Alliance (GBA).
The GBA is a public-private collaboration platform founded in 2017 at the World Economic Forum to help establish a sustainable battery value chain by 2030. The GBA brings together leading international organizations, NGOs, industry actors, academics, and multiple governments to align collectively in a pre-competitive approach, to drive systemic change along the entire value chain.
At Rio Tinto, we are working to find better ways to provide the materials the world needs for everyday life—including battery materials. Our portfolio includes a number of materials necessary for sustainable battery manufacturing, including lithium, borates, copper, aluminum, and iron powders.
As we transition to a low-carbon world, Rio Tinto can play an important role in finding ways to deliver battery materials in the most responsible way possible. We have put climate change at the heart of our strategy, combining investments in commodities that enable the energy transition with actions to decarbonize our operations and value chains.
